Check engine light and that rotten egg smell from the exhaust, anyone dealt with a cat replacement in AUH that didn't cost a fortune?
So my car just failed the RTA renewal test yesterday over at the Mussafah inspection center and the guy pointed to the emissions printout and said my catalytic converter is basically doing nothing at this point which explains the weird sulfur smell I've been ignoring for the past month like an idiot hoping it would just go away on its own, I called up the dealer for a quote just to see what the damage would be and the parts guy actually whistled when he pulled up the number on his screen and I think I felt my soul leave my body for a second because there's no way I'm dropping that kind of cash on a twelve year old daily driver that's otherwise running perfectly fine, so now I'm in that lovely position of trying to figure out if there's a shop somewhere in the industrial area that actually knows what they're doing with an auto catalytic converter replacement service without selling me some cheap universal unit that'll throw a P0420 code again in three months and leave me in the exact same spot, I've heard some places will weld in a generic one for cheap but then the car runs rich and the fuel economy tanks and suddenly you've saved a few hundred dirhams upfront just to spend it all back at the petrol pump over the next year, anyone navigated this mess successfully around Abu Dhabi and found a spot that either sources decent aftermarket cats that actually work with the oxygen sensors or maybe even cleans out the original one if it's just clogged and not completely melted inside?
