Basil likes fairly damp soil but cannot stand water. Water the plant twice or thrice a week, making more frequent watering in hot or dry seasons. The base should be watered so that there are leaves that are dry and fungal issues are minimal. Lightly fertilize after every 3-4 weeks with compost, fish emulsion, or a balanced organic fertilizer. The fertilizer should not be over-applied, with too many nutrients, which will make the aroma weak and diminish the natural flavor of the herb. Know more about Basil Plant Care
